🧐 Taste for makers
To make good stuff, you need good taste. But as Paul Graham writes, taste is not subjective or up to personal preference, but instead something you get a feel of when you design things.
Good design:
Is timeless
Is simple
Is often slightly funny
Is strangely beautiful
Solves the right problem
Looks easy
Resembles nature
🤝 Good co-founders
A four question list/quiz:
You feel 100% comfortable with them.
Could you Facetime them while you're on the toilet?
You derive energy from them.
When you're slumped, they're the person you want to see
When you guys disagree, there's real potential to reach a consensus. NOT fake consensus when one person pretends to agree for the sake of ending the disagreement. Real consensus happens when there's mutual respect and transparency. There's no ego, there's no politics.
They're genuinely excited when you succeed
A lot of respect. You legitimately think their ideas are as good as yours (that's rare for most people).
If they legitimately told you they believed the Earth was flat, would you at least give it some consideration?
